Upcoming Bus Route Changes

Changes Coming to Local Bus Services – From 2 January 2026

Following the Combined Authority’s action in September to save vital routes in our region, we have developed an improved set of bus services for residents, offering a simpler network and better frequency from 2nd January 2026.

Changes to the 31

On 31st December 2025, the 31 (Ramsey – Whittlesey) will be withdrawn. From 2nd January 2026 this will be replaced by a new route that connects Ramsey directly to Peterborough.

New services:

X31 – Ramsey to Peterborough

Route: Ramsey ↔ Upwood ↔ Bury ↔ Pondersbridge ↔ Peterborough

Operator: Dews Coaches

Frequency: Every 2 hours

Days/Hours of Operation: Monday to Saturday, approx 7am – 7pm

Click here to view the timetable.

This new route means quicker journey times to Peterborough for residents in Ramsey, Upwood and Bury. Its ideal for commuters and students.

There will still be direct access between Whittlesey and Ramsey via the 32 (March – Coates – Eastrea – Whittlesey – Ramsey), operated by Dews Coaches. You can view the timetable for the 32 here.

For lost property or any route queries, please contact the operator at: sales@dews-coaches.com

Changes to the 9

From 2 January 2026, the 9 (Littleport – Ely – Cambridge) will continue to run its current route but with increased frequency.

Residents will see the number of buses between Ely and Littleport double, offering more flexibility throughout the day. The route will continue to run through to Cambridge every two hours, continuing to serve Tesco.

Changes to the 9A and 125

On 31 December 2025, the 9A (Ely Circular) and 125 (Ely – Little Downham) will be withdrawn. They will be replaced from 2 January 2026 with a new simplified route with increased frequency.

New services:

10 – Ely to Little Downham

Route: Ely ↔ Ely Leisure Village ↔ Little Downham

Operator: A2B Bus & Coach

Frequency: Hourly

Days/Hours of Operation: Monday to Saturday, approx 7am – 7pm

Click here to view the timetable.

This new route replaces both the 9A and 125, offering increased frequency for residents. It will run in both directions around Ely West, including Damson Avenue to serve new housing developments and will connect at Ely Market Street for onward travel to Cambridge, the Princess of Wales Hospital and more.

The current 9A runs in a one-way loop. The new 10 runs both ways, so if you currently catch the 9A on:

  • St Andrews Way
  • Benedict Street
  • Dunstan Street
  • Beresford Road
  • St Johns Road
  • Norfolk Road
  • Witchford Road
  • Cambridge Road

You will now need to board on the opposite side of the road when travelling into Ely.

Where there is no stop opposite, passengers should wait directly across from the current bus stop flag.

From January, the following areas will use nearby stops for the 10 or use Tiger on Demand:

  • Fieldside Way
  • Walsingham Way
  • Merlin Drive

From January, the following areas will use nearby stops for the 9 or 10 or use Tiger on Demand:

  • Orchard Estate / Cam Drive
  • Lynn Road / Buckingham Way

The nearest alternative stops are 170–450 metres away.

Tiger on Demand is also available – please check the Tiger on Demand map to view available virtual stops.
